The JumpMtr project will be a daughterboard for the TI MSP-EXP430F5529LP LaunchPad board using the MSP430F5529 microcontroller. I chose this version for its full-speed USB2 port, fast clock (25MHz), and plenty of memory (128KB flash, 8KB ram). It also has the usual timers (4), I2C (2), SPI (4), and UART (2) interfaces.

Preliminary design for the JumpMtr board involves first identifying the physical constraints, then assigning pin interconnects between the LaunchPad and JumpMtr boards.

  1. New DipTrace Project: First, I need a new DipTrace project and component library.
  2. Physical Constraints: Physical constraints are at the circuit level -- what pins are available to be used. Size constraints come later during the layout.
  3. Reusing BlinkMtr02: Review the BlinkMtr02 project to see what can be reused.
  4. Pin Assignments: Assign the interconnects between the LaunchPad and JumpMtr boards.
  5. Schematic: First draft of the complete schematic.
  6. Component Patterns: Component layout patterns.
  7. Layout: Board Layout
  8. Schematic Version 2: Board Layout V2
  9. Thermals
  10. Parts Procurement
