ezFET is TI's marketing term for the collection of software, firmware, and hardware used to program its microcontrollers over a USB connection. An ezFET is built into the MSP430F5529 JumpPad board using a MSP430F5528 as the interface controller; this is the design I copied into the CtrlMtr design.

TI makes a "sort of" open source version of the ezFET available on its website under the name "ezfet lite". It is "sort of" open source because TI allows anyone to develop new products based on the ezFET without royalties or limitations, but key components of the project are made available only as binaries -- dropping the "source" from its "open source" offering -- and the binaries have not been updated since August 2013.

I am curious about what will happen when I connect to the CtrlMtr board using CCS613, will it update my ezFET firmware to the latest TI production version? If so, could I skip the ezFET lite altogether and just use CCS to program the 5528? Will there be a problem with the USB IDs?

I have downloaded and unpacked the ezFET "lite" package on VS12:

I finally have a board limping along, and it is time to see if I can convert the 5528 into an ezFET.

I found a link to a more recent version of the ezFET software.

I also revisited ghetto style and I am downloading Elpotronic's FET-Pro. I remember using this before.

Make sure to set the connection to JTAG 4-wire.
